A 1 RFC 1035: Address record: Returns a 32-bit IPv4 address, most commonly used to map hostnames to an IP address of the host, but it is also used for DNSBLs, storing subnet masks in RFC 1101, etc. DDNS with DHCP and IPv6 Dynamic DNS (DDNS) is a means of updating DNS with information from a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server. After the DHCP server assigns an IP address it communicates the assignment to the DNS server. This mechanism is called DDNS, and it’s described in RFC 2136. Setup on Mac Open System Preferences. Search for DNS Servers and select it from the dropdown. Click the + button to add a DNS Server and enter 188.8.131.52 Click + again and enter 184.108.40.206 (This is for redundancy.) Click + again and enter 2606:4700:4700::1111 (This is for redundancy.) Click + again and IPv6 addresses are represented in DNS using AAAA records (called "quad-A records"). Reverse DNS is rooted in the ip6.arpa tree. See RFC 3596 for additional information. Most modern DNS software supports AAAA records.
